INTRODUCING THE CAREER GIRL'S HOLY GRAIL SHOE

EVERLANE

By marrying the polish of a fashion-y flat and the comfort of a sneaker, the Everlane Street Shoe will make the dreaded commuter shoe a thing of the past.

EVERLANE

My mornings go something like this:

Wake up. Roll out of bed. Get dressed (in something ridiculously cute, obviously) and throw on a pair of fancy shoes so I feel office-appropriate. Commute to work via subway, ruining said fancy shoes in the process.

Sure, I could wear different shoes on the subway and change them before I walk into work, but it doesn't feel...chic. And while I've amassed my fair share of fashion-y flats to wear to work to try and eliminate commuter shoes altogether, none of these flats are as cozy as they could be. Some of my brogues and loafers blister even worse than my stilettos, in fact, which just makes the commute even less fun than it would be in heels.

Enter Everlane, which since it entered the market in 2010, seems to be solving all our fashion woes. Last fall they introduced their super sleek Modern Loafer, and now, they're solving our commuter shoe problem for spring with a sporty looking version, dubbed the Everlane Street Shoe.

"It's a very Everlane thought process where we had tapped into a shoe that people seemed to love," head designer Petra Langerova told ELLE.com. "We're constantly back ordered on the Modern Loafer. The thought was to reiterate on the same shape, the same shoe, and just lighten it up going into the spring and summer. I like to think we've given it a little bit more bounce, fun, and casual kind of attitude."

The thing that'll make this shoe an instant hit is what it balances: the aesthetics and polish of a fashion-y flat with the comfort of Adidas Sam Smith sneakers, thanks to the shoe's smart design, like its hand-cut sole, made from a super squishy microporous fiber. The shoe—which would look great with cropped trousers, pencils skirts, and midi dresses—will come in two versions: solid colors (white and grey) as well as a woven eco-leather in black and white, and potentially "more patterns and different materials" down the road if it's really popular. Which, of course, we suspect it will be.
